Some small features which would markedly improve functionality of the new PDF Export tool:
  • Ability to set a workspace default template and/or favorites, to save having to click through and browse workspace templates to find your most used.
  • A "Legacy" template which mimics the look and layout of the legacy PDF exporter, to help bridge the gap as users transition to the new tool.
  • Ability to turn off emoji for accounts/line items in PDF Export.
  • A "print preview" mode to show a budget in the paginated form it will take on export, rather than the scroll that's shown when content goes over the page.
  • Ability to designate a different header/footer for the first page, so that information from the top sheet is repeated only where necessary on other pages.
  • Ability to split a header/footer into two or three sections, so that text can be justified to left and right side separately. For instance, Page number on top right and project name on top left.
  • Ability to click and drag Variables from the menu into text boxes rather than typing them in.
--------
And a few bugs I found in working with the new exporter:
  • Variables cannot be clicked when the options present themselves after an open brace. Selecting with arrow keys and hitting enter is functional, but clicking on the desired variable closes the dialog without connecting the variable.
  • After the variable dialog closes without a variable assigned, the brace seems to "go dead" and needs to be deleted and re-typed to bring back the context menu.
  • The Variable side panel menu closes itself when a text box is selected, so the user cannot reference the available variables while typing them in.
  • "Production ID" is available as a variable on export, but doesn't seem to be accessible or editable anywhere else in the project. Is this just an upcoming feature that hasn't rolled out elsewhere yet?
  • "Page Count" variable seems to take a null value if placed in a text box, rather than in the Header or Footer.
